After Your Massage

Drink extra water – Proper hydration aids the function of the whole body. Drinking water in general is a good idea to help bring you back down to earth after your massage and also seems to help soreness and fatigue.

If the focus of your massage was on a particular injury or body part, remember to stretch, ice, or apply heat to the area. Or, you may want to do some gentle movement, such as walking, sometime in the hours after your massage to mildly encourage your muscles to work in a balanced and efficient way.

Sometimes people experience soreness for 24 hours or so after a massage. If you feel sore, stretch gently, take a hot shower, or soak in a warm bath with Epsom salts. Drink extra water.  Staying hydrated is important and seems to help soreness and fatigue after a massage.  Remember to tell your massage therapists about your experience so it can be taken into consideration in your next session

Rest- Massage is both work on the mind and body. You may feel tired and should schedule time to take it easy after your massage. This is completely normal and you should listen to your body. Use this time to recover, if you can, take a nap or go to bed early. If you haven’t been sleeping well, receiving massage may relax you enough that you will want to turn in early and catch up.
